Whether your ideal vacation is action packed and an effort to see all the nooks and beaches on Maui or…. Your dream is to just mellow out and enjoy a “Tropical rest”….. Our lovely, fully equipped condo at Kamaole sands should fit your needs perfectly.
Being on the top floor, our unit has vaulted ceilings which gives it a spaciousness that is not available in single story units. For your enjoyment we are constantly upgrading. Both bathrooms have newly tiled walk-in showers. Both bedrooms have new furniture and we have upgraded the master loft bedroom to a cal king bed and the “Ground floor” bedroom to a queen size. There is also a queen size sofa bed in the living area.
We are about 30 minutes from Kahului airport, mostly on a new 4 lane highway. South Kihei is centrally located, so access to the rest of the island is easy and relaxing.
Our condo in South Kihei and borders Wailea. It is just across the street from Kamaole Beach #3~~which offers great snorkeling, boogie boarding, and magnificent sunsets! Our condo looks out onto lush garden areas and is about 100 feet from the pool….but just around the corner and far enough away so that the “Pool merriment” is not intrusive. And that is important in case you want to doze a bit while reading on the lanai!!!
Included in the main pool area is a kiddie pool, two hot tubs (one each for adults and children), a ping pong table, and a work out room with weights, treadmills etc. There is tour and excursion information available poolside and main lobby daily. Four tennis courts are for your use, free of charge.
We have a dedicated parking place right outside the building and near the elevator. There is wonderful shopping and eateries within walking distance, and several championship golf course just minutes away.

Entry from: Hilo, United States
Entry Title: “Arrival in Hilo”
Entry:
“At 8:50 I boarded a plane for the Big Island of Hawai’i for my long awaited vacation. After a brief delay resulting from the plane breaking down I was on my way, and arrived in Hilo around midday. One of my co-workers, Max, accompanied me on the trip. While we don’t really get along, it was great to have someone else to see the sights with, if only so that we always had someone to get our photo at the memorable spots.
After arriving in Hilo I hitch-hiked into town and spent the rest of the day exploring. It turns out Hilo is actually quite small, and it has a very “island” feel to it. While this doesn’t mean alot to anyone who hasn’t lived on an island, let’s just say it has a very relaxed and quaint atmosphere to it. The town has one main street, Kamehameha Street, along which all the cafes, tourist traps, and local markets can be found. The other side of this street was originally a shopping district, but was destroyed in a 1946 tsunami and so it now a parkland area.
I walked through all of the parkland, of which a number of pictures can be seen, before hiking 5km out of town to the hostel I would be spending the next 4 nights at. As it turns out the hostel is very well appointed and the dorm accomodations were fantastic while costing very little. I would even go so far as to say the accomodations were nicer than my current apartment in Honolulu.
In the late afternoon I checked out the coves near the hostel and came across a number of sea turtles, of which I managed to get a few good pictures of. I went out swimming with them too, coming within a metre or so of a pair as they swam around the bay.
In the evening the skies opened up and Hilo lived up to its reputation as the wettest town in Hawai’i, as it would every evening for the trip. Overall a very successful start to the trip and I looked forward to the following day’s Mauna Kea tour.”

Designed and built for our family to be reminiscent of an 1880s Hawaii paniolo (cowboy) ranch house, Cabin in the TreeLine has old-time charm with 21st century conveniences. Awaken to the music of the ironwoods as you relax in your private master bedroom with private bath. An upstairs sleeping area accommodates up to 3 family members or close friends.
Your days at Cabin in the TreeLine can be serene or filled with activities. Your choices are many and varied. Kick back, lie in a hammock, commune with nature. Go hiking, take a nature walk! Hit the sun and sand … a black-sand beach is only a 20 minute drive. And you’re only 30 minutes from a large beach expanse of white sands and warm ocean waters. Spend time shopping and “talk story” with the artisans of Hawi. Parker Ranch, Waipio Valley, botanical gardens, waterfalls and quaint little towns are all in a morning’s drive. After a day outdoors, hiking, mountain biking (private tours can be arranged), horseback riding, or sightseeing, Cabin in the TreeLine evenings are to cherish forever. Real bad, that’s how bad. I was cruisin around Oahu on a Fat Boy. Put 120 miles on it during the day. Was my first time on a Harley. Now I understand all the hype! It will be my next bike. Also, took out a Heritage Softail. Not sure which I like better. Softail is a more comfortable ride, and the higher handlebars (though not quite ape-hanger) do add to the badness factor. Entry from: El Nido, Philippines
Entry Title: “Greetings From El Nido, Palawan”
Entry:
“Sorry for my delay in posting an update. I am presenty in the Island Province of Palawan, specifically at the World Class El Nido Resort, Lagen Island. I arrived here on April 21 and have been having a wonderful time! Overslept a bit in Manila and almost missed my flight. Fortunately it was a chartered flight servicing El Nido guests, only, so no standby list to occupy your space. Guess they will allow employees to occupy a vacant seat if someone doesn’t show. Came here with almost no Philippine Pesos in my pocket as I could not get anyone to cash any Travelers Checks before my departure. Even the ultra-luxurious Pan Pacific Hotel had no cash to change $200 USD and the banks were closed. They have these Moneychangers all over the place, but they only accept currency. A word for all who are considering traveling to the Philippines, Travelers Checks are not always that easy to cash, so if you need to bring them, PLAN Ahead. Fortunately, most major credit cards are welcome and honored. Upon arrival to El Nido, they informed me that I didn’t need cash and could put everything on my room bill and pay on check-out. This has worked out very well as meals are included with my accomodations and there is nowhere else to eat. So all I have needed to charge is drinks at the bar and miscellaneous items at the botique. The Resort has an exclusive arrangement with a charter air service that uses 19-passenger, Dornier turbo-prop aircraft. Similar to the ones used by the smokejumpers in the USA. After a quick 1.5 hour flight from Manila, we landed at a VERY Short dirt and blacktop runway, just outside the town of El Nido. After our luggage was loaded onto the boat, we were transported, yet again, in a Banca Boat to the resort. AUpon arrival, we greeted to local folk music sung by the staff……….Kinda felt like a lei greeting in Hawaii, but was very nice.
This place is WONDERFUL! I will say that again in case you didn’t hear me……..This place is WONDERFUL! I have found true paradise in the Philippines. If I was to die today, this is where I would want it to happen. Just kidding……..I’m not ready to go just yet! The resort is Well-Maintained, Service is impecible and the staff treats you like family. They go out of their way to memorize your name and use it frequently when you are greeted while passing through the complex. There is only one downside from my perspective and it is NOT by any means a negative. The amount of and frequency of daily activities makes my head spin. Most daily activities are included with the price you paid for accomodations. Windsurfing, sea kayaking, island hopping, snorkeling, rock climbing, to name just a few. They even offer an intro SCUBA course for those who are not certified divers, free of charge. They do charge for SCUBA, but it is very reasonable. They have Guest Activities Coordinators that drop by your dinner table and work with you to schedule your next days events. No hard sell here and if you choose to do nothing, they will leave it at that. Everyday, I talk to people who come back Dog-Tired from a full day of activities and struggle to make it to dinner. Guess for some this would be an attraction, but I prefer not to overschedule my days so I can focus on relaxing.
I had planned to dive yesterday, but my ears were bothering me from my last dive on Boracay. So I opted to one of the small islands to hang around the beach and then had lunch. Following lunch, they took a boat-load of people to two famous areas of El Nido that they call Big and Small Lagoon. There we went sea-kayaking and then …”

Entry from: Papeete, French Polynesia
Entry Title: “Tahiti: La France d’outre mer”
Entry:
“Ah, the exotic South Pacific of French Polynesia. We were lured by romantic visions of iridescent, reef-protected, mesmerizingly turquoise-blue lagoons saturating beaches of sugary sand under the shadow of rugged and lush mountains, all while lusty maidens serenaded us to sweet sleep surrender… Not quite reality!
Tahiti and the nearby island of Moorea were not as idyllic as we had dreamed. Picture Hawaii (especially the outer islands), but with a heavy dose of French attitude. In spite of what we knew and what we anticipated, it still shocked us to hear French (or French pidgin at least) come from familiar Polynesian faces. As naturally as we had come to expect English in Hawaii, the French seemed foreign in this setting.
But here we were, in the middle of French Polynesia, foreigners ourselves in this new Gaugin twist of the Pacific. We immediately reaquainted ourselves with the satisfying taste of baguettes, fromage and Orangina. We even seized the opportunity to speak a few words en Francais. Like C3PO robotically translating R2D2′s electronic beeps, Reza tried to convey Cheryl’s wishes, but he was thwarted and rebuffed, too slow for a short patience audience. Fortunately, English is widely spoken.
Rude, curt attitudes, uncomfortably long stares, and widespread line-cutting throughout our short stays in Papeete and the scenic island of Moorea, 30 minutes away by ferry, frequently jolted us from our idyllic South Pacific dream. To add insult to injury, Tahiti is expensive: c’est trop cher! So you pay dearly for this rudeness, and c’est dommage. No romantic over-water bungalow on this trip, nor could we squeeze in an extra trip to Bora-Bora. We had to save something to bring us back and what’s more, either luxury would have required us to forsake our European plans. Bottom line: pad your savings accounts before you come to Tahiti, and better yet, consider an overpriced cruise to save you from exorbitant prices on shore. If the food and accomodations don’t deplete your savings, the plethora of Tahitian black pearls certainly will!
This whole trip we’ve encircled Hawaii like a shark, underwhelmed by our tropical destinations in comparison to the 50th state. Hawaii is not in the South Pacific, but luckily for our friends who live there, it offers almost everything we’ve seen. Sure, the water is cooler, not as protected by near-shore reefs and as turquoise-blue; and you’ll find it more difficult to climb mountains while gripping for dear life on the back of an officially licensed “Le Truck”, but it can be just as quaint and exotic outside Honolulu, minus all the hustle and hassles south of the equator. People are friendlier, costs are (relatively) cheaper, and a world of conveniences is within easy reach. For those of you allured by romantic visions of the South Pacific, here’s our black pearl of wisdom: give the Hawaiian Islands a try first, and if an outer island isn’t remote enough, try the Cook Islands next. You’ll find less cultural shoals to run you aground. If you’re in need of more adventure to drain you sense and sensibility, then head for China!”

Entry from: Honolulu, United States
Entry Title: “Waikiki and Oahu”
Entry:
“The Waikiki and Oahu leg was the last segment of our 14 night trip to Hawaii. The earlier stages (Big Island and Maui) had been pretty hectic due to limited time. The Oahu stage was a little more relaxing as we had 7 nights and not that much driving to do.
We arrived from Maui Thursday June 11. Took the Roberts Shuttle into Waikiki. We got a bit of a discount as we had a group of 11 – if memory serves it cost $7 per person. Our family of 4 had rented two condos at the Aston Pacific Monarch (corner of Kuhio and Uluniu). One of the condos was rented from the management at Aston Pacific Monarch, the other direct from the owner (Steve) on vrbo.com. The link to his ad is below:
http://www.vrbo.com/81913
The other part of our group was staying at Hilton Hawaiian Village, which is at the very western end of Waikiki.
Accommodation:
The Pacific Monarch is probably a bit dated in parts, but the location was excellent. It is only a few minutes walk to Waikiki Beach and to the main tourist and shopping area on Kalakaua Ave. When we were researching where to stay, a lot of the condos we looked at on vrbo were located a few blocks further back along the Ala Wai C****. When we got there and figured out the layout of the area we were glad we had chosen the Pacific Monarch, as it was much closer to the beach than those options. Also we found the staff at the front desk to be excellent, very friendly and helpful.
We really liked the condo we rented from Steve on vrbo. It was a bit older and the kitchen quite small, but had a great ocean view (20th floor) and came with a PC and broadband internet connection. There was a spacious lanai (balcony) where we would often have a drink of an evening and watch the moon rise over Waikiki. We’d definitely rent this condo again if we return.
Pacific Monarch has a pool and spa on the roof of the building and also a ‘party room’ which takes up the whole floor below that and has great views. We never saw anyone using it while we were there though…
The Pacific Monarch also has a small convenience store just outside the lobby which is run by a Korean couple and was fairly reasonably priced for buying beer, wine and other items.
A short walk up Kuhio to the east there was a Food Pantry (supermarket) and in the other direction a Foodland or Safeway, can’t remember which…
Food:
There were plenty of options for eating close to the Pacific Monarch. There was a small Korean place just across the road where we would often get breakfast and lunch, a Tex-Mex place we ate at (La Cucaracha) just down the block as well as many Japanese restaurants, including a quite nice looking one just nextdoor. Generally in Hawaii we found there was a good choice of food – things like Vietnamese or Thai which we often have at home were available as well as others that we don’t see much here such as Filipino food.
One of the guys I work with in Australia visited Waikiki years ago on a football trip and was always telling me how lousy and unhealthy the food was, everything deep-fried etc. I think it must have changed since then – sure, they have most of the burger joints common on the mainland, but as I say you can get pretty much any kind of food you like. The portions are huge though – my family and friends used to call me ‘scrappy’ for finishing off the kids’ leftovers or stuff …”

A PIECE OF PARADISE – HAWAIIAN VACATION RENTALS
If you’re ready to get away from it all, the magical Big Island of Hawaii is just what you need!
This tropical paradise offers hundreds of miles of unique coastline, world class sport fishing, spectacular surfing, and boundless opportunities for relaxation.
One of the most intriguing spots on the island is the area of Kapoho in East Hawaii – where secluded black sand beaches and sparkling blue water are graced by sunny skies.
Treat yourself to fantastic swimming, snorkeling, and kayaking; or simply relax and enjoy the beauty of this diverse and dynamic paradise.
This beautiful location also provides easy access to mesmerizing waterfalls, lush botanical gardens and the awesome Hawaii Volcanoes National Park- where molten lava pops and sizzles as it flows into the sea.
For the ultimate Kapoho getaway, while escaping the crowds of tourists and resort prices, an exclusive vacation rental from A Piece of Paradise provides guests with a truly authentic Big Island experience.
Family owned and operated right on the Big Island since 1993, A Piece of Paradise Hawaiian Vacation Rentals was a pioneer in online reservations and has provided thousands of visitors with the vacation of their dreams.
These private homes-away-from-home offer travelers the perfect spot for relaxation, adventure and the genuine Aloha spirit that has made Hawaii one of the world’s premiere travel destinations.
With a Piece of Paradise you can experience everything from a quaint beach cottage to the luxury and privacy of alfresco living in your very own tropical estate. Many of the properties have private geothermal heated ponds.
Easily accessible by car, these fine homes are available exclusively from A Piece of Paradise and located only 40 minutes from Hilo airport.
Another A Piece of Paradise destination is Alaua Hale in the resort community of Waikoloa Village. This exquisite custom home is just minutes away from championship golf courses, white sand beaches and incredible views of West Hawaii’s world famous sunsets.
