I’m planning a vacation for my mom and dad for their anniversary.
I’m planning on paying for them to fly from Pittsburgh to Hawaii next January for an 8 night vacation.
I want to fly them to Honolulu for 4 days on Oahu with an economy rental car, and then fly them with a Go Hawaii flight from Honolulu to Maui for 4 more days with a convertable, and then finally a flight from Maui back to Honolulu, and from Honolulu to Pittsburgh.
Since my plan involves a 4 night lodging on 2 different islands, 2 different rental cars, and an inter-island flight inside of the main roundtrip flight from Pittsburgh to Honolulu, I can’t find a website that has the brain to compute all these factors in lol.
Have any of you ever planned a multiple-destination vacation online?
If so, where at? And how easy was it?
make an appointment to speak with a travel agent OR call the 1-800 for customer service from your favorite travel website.
all that aside, i would also like you to look at the alternative to buying them a vacation. you may have a certain amount of faith in the marriage of your parents, however, more and more shocking divorces are happening each year. why take the chance that they could divorce and then you would be out the money you shelled out on the vacation! if i were u, i would just give my parents the cash and let them do what they want once the time comes. this way, they dont necessarily have to go on the vacation ON their anniversary if they cant get away. this way, they can plan it themselves and go when THEY want to.

I feel like Im going to forget something!! I have two cats, and they are being taken care of for the week.
But what else do I need to do? I have our rental car set up, I made sure our phones would work over there without enoromous charge, I checked when the check-in time was, I have all our stuff ready to pack, I need to go buy cameras….
I feel like Im going to foget something. Are there any checklists for travel to make sure you got everything on the ball before you go?? Im so scatterbrained sometimes and I dont want something forgotten to ruin the vacation!! Any advice???
There are lots of travel checklists on the net. Google "travel checklist" to see.
Really, though, you just need to calm down. If your cats are safe, you have your plane tickets and your hotel reservations, and you know your phone will work there, how much can go wrong? It’s not like you couldn’t buy spare parts on Maui.
Here are some of my personal last minute checks: If you have papers delivered, stop them while you’re gone. What is happening to your mail? (Pickup by cat sitter or held at post office?) If you have a yard, are sprinklers set? Any drugs you need to make sure you refill before going? Do relatives know where you will be so they don’t stress?
Have a lovely time on Maui and don’t worry too much.

A bit about the couple:
We’re ages 30 and 32, we’ve been in a very committed relationship for almost 14 years (we met when I was 16, he 18).No kids/no pets, we both work full time Mon-Fri 9-5 jobs. He makes more money than I do, about $48k and I make about $31k.
Background for the question:
He has credit card debt (I’d say now it’s about $9,000 down from $15,000 after consolidation). Sometime some time around April/May, I helped him by looking into debt consolidation and enrolled him in a program to pay of his debt without effecting his good credit. We both live paycheck to paycheck because I make "just enough" and he has debt to take care of. However, we’re not that stretched because we manage to do something fun every weekend (bbq’s, outings with friends, camping trips etc.).I’m the "planner" in the relationship, he can plan too, but is much more last minute when it comes to those things although he was very good about our trip to Hawaii two years ago. Just FYI, we paid 80% cash for that trip. We saved up for it all year long. There were somethings we had to put on his credit card, but it sure as hell wasn’t $15,000! Just a side note to consider.
Details of the question:
So, I am trying to plan a vacation for 2010 (around April or May). It’s either to go back to Hawaii or on a cruise for 7-9 days. We have a family member in the airline business that can us on the plane to Maui for free/next to nothing. I found a bungalow for $80 a night and car rental is $30 a day. VERY CHEAP for Hana, Maui. For the cruise, it’s $1100 for both of us to the Caribbean (he’s never been on a cruise) and it’s all expenses paid for except alcohol and shopping. We can pay a deposit of $500 and pay off the cruise over the course of the year. Everytime I try to talk to him about planning a vacation for next year, he gets bugged about it, says we can’t afford, we’ll talk about it later and continues to put me off. I’m trying to plan in advance to make him feel more comfortable about the money (paying it off over time, paying in cash vs. credit, etc.) and that way we have plenty of time to make the best arrangements, scheduled time off and what not. NO RUSH. He hates to be rushed! Okay, so I’m trying to work with him. I can’t find a common ground. He’s an amazing guy (that’s why I’m still with him ;o) But I don’t how to handle this. I’ve got a bug to "see and do" and he feels like he can’t do anything. He needs to FIND A WAY.
You are earning about $80,000.00 per year. It sure sounds like you can manage a vacation every few years, if not more. You sure sound like you have a head on your shoulders and have the finances under control.
Go for it!!!! Sit him down and tell him how you have earned the vacation and show him on paper. Both your choices are wonderful…. Both will be a great time and since he has never been on a cruise why not try it. The price you have is fantastic..
Go for it !!!!!.
How expensive is Maui? If you want a vacation rental condominium ( up to four people), visit the Brase/Brase statistics site at math.college.hmco.com/students, find the link to Maui, and then search for accommodations. The Maui News gave the following costs in dollar per day for a random sample of condominiums located throughout the island of Maui. 89, 50, 68, 60, 375, 55, 500, 71, 40, 350, 60, 50, 250, 45, 45,125, 235, 65, 60, 130. If you were a travel agent, and a client asked about the daily cost of renting condominium on Maui, what average would you use?
Probably the mode, 60, since the 500 will raise the mean too much and it looks like the median is higher than 60 as well.
A world famous vacation villa located in Hawaii on Maui’s North Shore, Hale Pali Ku is an amazing custom home that feels like a temple turned art museum. Lavish in carved marble outdoor showers, live amongst original works of art from Maui’s best artists, and take in the stunning ocean view. Forage for jungle foods in our edible tropical garden. Ok so I never been to hawaii ever. I planned out a vacation there 2 months from now but I don’t want to get lost or anything soo…I also rented a car and i was wondering if anyone went to any of the maui cruises and drove with a rental there. How does parking work in hawaii? I live in a Metro city so i’m used to meter maids giving out tickets. Is there parking before you embark on a dinner cruise? yea stupid question i know
My son and I went to Maui. From the airport we rented a car. We stayed there for a week. We had the greatest time ever, I strongly suggest that you get the GPS they offer you ( for a cost ). There are little ferries you can take to other islands and other means.
I don’t suggest taking a cruise to Hawaii ( Maui ). I saw how the cruise ships work. They go to all the islands and only spend a few hours on each island. Its surely not nearly enough time to really see the island. I loved Maui. There are so many things to do there. Don’t forget to take " The Road To Hana ". I’m not quite sure what your talking about a dinner cruise though. So, maybe my answer is not what your looking for.

I’m planning a vacation to Maui, most likely going through Apple Vacations. I’ll be staying at the Aston Ka’anapali Shores. Is Apple Vacations the best way to get flight/hotel/rental car in one place for a great price? Is there any benefit to having the travel agent book through Apple Vacations, rather than just going online and doing it myself? (I checked her rates against the rates I look up myself on the website and they are exactly the same plus the $50 she charges for her service). And are there any other vacation packaging websites similar to Apple? (not Orbitz or Hotwire)
No, I won’t have to look for those things, because Apple vacations is a package vacation deal, it’s what she uses as well. Like I explained, her price quotes are exactly the same (plus $50 for her service) as the Apple Vacations website. The site gives the hotel, flight, and rental car.
It is best to just take the offer with her otherwise you will have to search for hotel, airline ans well as rental car. She has the trouble of looking for all those things for you.
Does anyone have any suggestions on where to stay? We are trying to decide between hotel, condo or vacation rental. Also any suggestions on activities is welcomed. There will be me & hubby in our early 30s, My Mom & aunt & Grandma.
First off. You have to try Owner Direct Vacation Rentals. They have nearly 60 vacation rentals in Maui http://www.ownerdirect.com/lodging/usa/hawaii/islandofmaui.htm , so you’re almost guaranteed to find one that suits your needs and your budget.
I’ve been using Owner Direct Vacation Rentals for several years now, and haven’t stayed in a hotel since I found them. Their customer service is fantastic, and they can put you right in touch with the owner of the home, so you’ll know exactly what to expect. It should be really easy to find a place that all 5 of you can stay in comfortably.
As for what to do, there’s lots of opportunities for scuba diving and snorkeling, and just lazing on the beautiful beaches. Maui is smaller and less heavily populated than Oahu (where Honolulu, the capital city is) and is a very relaxing place to visit. It should be easy to find things to do there, and it’s also really easy to get to any of the other islands by just a short plane trip, in case you want to experience Waikiki or Kilauea volcano or something like that.
Have a great time on your trip! I know you’ll enjoy Maui!
I’m taking my family on vacation to Hawaii this summer. It’s going to be me, the wife, and the brats on Maui for two weeks. Does anybody know of a good place to find vacation rentals online? Thanks!
My family and I recently took a vacation where we rented a house and we used www.vrbo.com (vacation rentals by owner), and we had excellent luck. We ended up with an excellent house at a reasonable price. I just checked their Web site and they have listings for Maui. Good luck!

My wife and I are staying at kamoale sands near Kihei, I haven’t planned any activities to do yet but want to know how to get around the island. We aren’t planning on car rentals for the whole week. Any advice?
You need a rental car for the whole time you are on Maui. There is no significant bus transportation, and taxis every day would cost a fortune. Without a car, all you will be able to do is sit around the pool at your condo or walk to the nearest beach. You could do those things in southern California a lot cheaper than going to Maui. If you are on Maui, you’ll want to see the sights and try the restaurants and experience several different beaches and shop in Lahaina. For all those things you need a car.
There are a dozen good tips on how to get the best price on a Maui rental car on the Car Rental Deals tab of

What is the best Mexican town or city for a two month winter vacation? Condo rental recommendations?
We like Maui but are looking for something less expensive and just as nice. Want safe swimming and snorkeling and a great condo with water views. Any recommendations?
Well, it depends on your age and interests. There are many lovely towns in Mexico. Here are a few that are really beautiful:
San Cristobal De las Casas, Chiapas. -> Beautiful highland town with colonial buildings. Fascinating indian villages surround it, while the atmosphere in town is at the same time traditional and cosmopolitan. Not too expensive either.
San Miguel de Allende. -> Situated in Central Mexico. Cobbled streets and old colonial buildings. You get the arid landscape too, lol. Very popular with American retirees.
Playa Del Carmen-> Not so traditionally Mexican, but it has a great setting on the caribbean. Great restaurants and atmosphere. Slightly more expensive. Nice safe, sandy beaches with great diving nearby.
Hope this helps.
