I’ve been reading up about the science of investment in real estate; specifically condos, vacation rentals. I have met some very wealthy real estate agents in Hawaii and some others that make a decent income like 40k a year.
If I want to become a real estate invester, will it help if I become a real estate agent, broker, etc.
Please, I’m still young and am eager to learn from you the experienced.
Any added expertise will help an investor of any kind. Realtors have an advantage because they tend to know the laws regarding real estate, but more importantly they know their market and have access to information not readily available to Joe Blow investor. They are usually members of the local board of realtors and have access to the MLS which offers knowledge of present and past sales and the market trends of neighborhoods. You might not need to get a real estate license to be a good investor, but simply to find a good Realtor who knows the business who can guide you through it and advise you on good opportunities.

We would like a three- or four-star hotel that has a sandy beach on the Kona coast of the big island.
I’d prefer it walking distance from town, although we will have a rental car. I just like to walk when possible!
The main things we want are a hotel (not a condo), a sandy beach, a good restaurant or two on-site or nearby, and good ocean views.
Many of the properties on the Internet seem to be condos, and we prefer a hotel.
Mahalo!
you are not going to find any hotel within walking distance of Kona Village with a sandy beach. The only hotel I am aware of that has a sandy beach is the Mauna Kea about 15-20 minutes away from the village. It’s a man made beach and very big but I heard the hotel was still closed from the earthquake. I could be completely wrong on that but you should check it out first of course.
Sorry but there are very few sandy beaches, especially large ones, on the Kona coast. Most of the big island’s coast is volcanic rock.
Where is the best place to stay on the big Island? Condo Rental (suggestions) or Hotel (suggestions)?

how much would it coast to live in hawaii for a year? i mean, inexpensive rental condo, using a bike instead of car, and eating inexpensive foods at home all of the time.
mainly oahu
honolulu..
not being bossy but i would like a flat guestimate. like 2000 a month. something like that
You would need to budget at least $1,000/month for a studio apartment. It would not be especially nice nor in the best neighborhoods. You would have to look around a bit to find one under $1,500, but it could be done. The bus is $2/trip or a bus pass of $40/month. Your electric bill will probably run at least $100/month. Food will be much more than you are used to. Milk will run $5/gal. Bread about $3/loaf (not "good" bread, the cheap stuff). Ground beef will be ~ $3/lb. Cereal will run $5-6/box. It’s hard to get out of the supermaket without spending at least $75.
OK, I’ll bite… between $2,000 & $2,500/month
http://www.yourmauigetaway.com/ – Welcome to our two bedroom luxury condo located in sunny Kihei (sunniest area in Maui). Maui Kamaole is a low-rise townhouse style complex directly across from Kamaole III Beach and borders Wailea. Built in 2001, this unit is in immaculate condition. Maui Kamaole is a true reflection of Maui paradise offering peaceful privacy and a beautiful tropical landscaped setting of tropical flowers, plants and palm trees.
With just a short, 25 minute drive from Kahului airport, Maui Kamaole is situated between world class beaches, golf courses, restaurants, shopping, diving and snorkeling. With so much to offer, it’s no wonder why Maui is a family paradise.

How much would you estimate to stay in Hawaii for 10 days…air fare, condo rental..ect (from houston texas)? I’m not to familiar with the islands to stay on so I’m open for which is best.
Hawaii is generally considered to be one of the most expensive vacation locations in the world.
I’d plan on plane tickets costing from $800-$1200 apiece.
Hotel Room- depends on how close to the beach, but a cheap place will run you $150 a night. Average will be $250 or so, and you can go waaaaay up from there.
Food- expensive, so are drink.
Activities- very expensive.
Rental Car and gas- expensive.
LOL, for 10 days, with plane tickets included, hmmm, I am going to say I’d budget $5000 – $8000 depending on how high class I wanted to go.
We are traveling with 3 families. Our parents (70), sister and brother in law (early 30′s) and us ( late 30′s, 18, 14, and 10 years old). We are not sure which island would be best to stay on so that there is something for everyone. Short hikes, waterfalls, and beach are 3 activities that keep coming up…and we don’t know if a resort or a condo/rental house would be the best option. We’d love input from anyone regarding a family friendly vacation and where might be the best place to call "home" for a week.
We live on Oahu (Ewa Beach), and have our sister/brother-in-law and another couple (friends-of-the-family) visit together at least once a year. With our two kids, 13 and 19, we’re in similar circumstances. And as you can imagine, we have lots of other family and friends visiting all the time.
Yours is a huge question, and would require a huge answer. And it depends on a lot of things like your interests, budget, how long you’re here, if you’ve been here before….
That said, here’s what our family and friends do now before they come to visit. We built a personal web page for them just for the questions you’re asking, with the best links and things to do in Hawaii, rated and reviewed. That way they could look BEFORE they got here and see what they want to do. It’s just grown over the last 3 years, and open to everyone. Our 4-star rated items may be a good place to start for those "don’t miss" things. From there, they could see and vote on where to go, even making a rough list of what they want more info about. That helped them and us decide to go the Big Island the second time, then Maui. It’s Kauai next. BTW, the web page initially grew based on things they found and asked about, and we just kept adding and reviewing.
The web site’s at http://home.hawaii.rr.com/gonebananas. Could go into a longer answer here, but with all the work we put into that page, well, you’ll see…it will answer your questions.
Aloha

This summer, my friends and I plan to go to Hawaii for our senior trip. I will still be 17, and all my other friends will be 18. My mom is really persistent in wanting to know everything about me going as a minor. She can’t even ask specific questions though
So what can you tell me that I’ll need to have or whatever to be there safely and legally? Can I stay in a rental condo with my 18 year old friends?
p.s. I live in mainland U.S., so it is technically within the country traveling.
~ No problems… however, if you were 15 or younger, you would have to pay about $65 for a Minor’s travel pass… Your parent or guardian would have to be with you till you board the plane… a guardian in Hawaii would have to have name, address, tel…etc and be waiting at the airport for you… you would have to carry a big plastic sign around your neck stating you are a MINOR, traveling unaccompanied… the Stewerdi would have to place you in a front row to help keep an eye on you.
~ But, at 17, I think you’re fine… call your airline first. Just need your ID card… drivers license… what ever you have, ask them if that’s sufficient… may have to get California ID (or state ID).
~ Have an awesome trip ~ Mahalo…

I saw it on travel channel and they said you could rent an entire condo for around $100 a day. You also have full use of the resort facilities. I looked on travel channel but could not find any info……can anyone help??????
I don’t think it will be that cheap, it is owned by Marriott and is pretty upscale. You might check on Vacation Rentals By Owner for a deal there though. Some are priced at about $2400 a month for a 2 bedroom. If you tell them you might be interested in a timeshare they can offer you a deal on a weeks stay and a rental car for around $975 plus a voucher to spend at the property for about $100. Worth a shot at that price.
Personally, I would put up a website about it and optimize it for the keywords long-term condo rental. You could also contact a local real estate agency and list it with them.
