My husband and I want to travel to Oahu, Hawaii (on a budget), some time in the next few months for about 7-10 days or so (some time between Oct and Jan but we are flexible). Does anyone know when is the best time to travel there? Where would be the best place to find cheap flights? Would it be cheaper to buy air tickets separately and then find a hotel/condo/rental apartment to stay in or to buy a package that includes flight and hotel?

Going to Hawaii this summer. My wife likes beaches but nature to. My boys are 11 and 7 and while the beaches will be great for them too, they’ll want to do some cool things. We thought of Oahu because of Pearl Harbor, but Kauai for the more relaxed activities like Horseback riding, ATV riding, etc. Any suggestions? Also, we’ll be staying in a condo or private home rental.
I live on the island of Kauai and it’s a beautiful place! Almost all the tourist I have spoken to listed Kauai as their favorite island. Then again, you do have two small boys and Oahu may benefit them more as there is more to do. Beach, water park, zoo, pearl harbor etc.. Kauai is more scenery and things to do such as hiking, beaches, ziplining etc… Def more laid back than Oahu where most people compare it to LA; the only difference is its surrounded by water. Kauai is def more different. We don’t even have more than two lanes on our one highway. If you have a chance I say go to both! totally worth it =)

it depends which island you are interested in and what area youre looking at when you get there. on the big island there are two main towns, hilo on the east side and kailua kona on the west side. hilo is a relatively small town and the houses usually run for about 250,000 or so. kona tends to be a bit more pricey but if you find property in an older subdivision it may be cheaper, probably around 200k.
i live near the kohala coast side, in a small town called waikoloa village. the resorts along the coast offer amazing condominiums that run for about 450-700k.
housing is quite pricey but you may have the option for time shares! besides that, food & overall cost of living is expensive. gas where i live is currently $4.419

We are planning a family trip for Christmas 2011 in Hawaii. What island do you suggest and where are some of your suggestions to stay? There will be 10 adults and 3 kids (kids ages will be 5, 2 and 4 months old). We are looking for either nice hotel, condo’s or even a rental house. We want access to nice pools as well as a beautiful beach and waterfalls. Half of us have never been to Hawaii and others have. We want some night life and GOOD restaurant options. Aston has several resort condos and they even have a kids club that the kids can go to if the adults want to spend some time away from the kids on some days.
