Do any of you that previously stayed at this once wonderful military resort hotel agree that standards in terms of food, accomodations, and service have severely dropped in the past couple of years? It’s steadily declined yet rates and prices have steeply escalated making one wonder if it’s worth it for military personnel to stay there anymore. Management seems apathetic and employees appear unhappy and unmotivated.

Yeah, place going down hill for long time now, problem is management, ok? They know cause they onna beach, and less money than most beach front place, and they got captive group of active, reserve, and retiree service people, they don’t have no competition, ok? Need new direction for whole property there, ok?
peace and aloha to you!

Entry from: Hilo, United States
Entry Title: “Arrival in Hilo”

Entry:

“At 8:50 I boarded a plane for the Big Island of Hawai’i for my long awaited vacation. After a brief delay resulting from the plane breaking down I was on my way, and arrived in Hilo around midday. One of my co-workers, Max, accompanied me on the trip. While we don’t really get along, it was great to have someone else to see the sights with, if only so that we always had someone to get our photo at the memorable spots.

After arriving in Hilo I hitch-hiked into town and spent the rest of the day exploring. It turns out Hilo is actually quite small, and it has a very “island” feel to it. While this doesn’t mean alot to anyone who hasn’t lived on an island, let’s just say it has a very relaxed and quaint atmosphere to it. The town has one main street, Kamehameha Street, along which all the cafes, tourist traps, and local markets can be found. The other side of this street was originally a shopping district, but was destroyed in a 1946 tsunami and so it now a parkland area.

I walked through all of the parkland, of which a number of pictures can be seen, before hiking 5km out of town to the hostel I would be spending the next 4 nights at. As it turns out the hostel is very well appointed and the dorm accomodations were fantastic while costing very little. I would even go so far as to say the accomodations were nicer than my current apartment in Honolulu.

In the late afternoon I checked out the coves near the hostel and came across a number of sea turtles, of which I managed to get a few good pictures of. I went out swimming with them too, coming within a metre or so of a pair as they swam around the bay.

In the evening the skies opened up and Hilo lived up to its reputation as the wettest town in Hawai’i, as it would every evening for the trip. Overall a very successful start to the trip and I looked forward to the following day’s Mauna Kea tour.”

Entry from: El Nido, Philippines
Entry Title: “Greetings From El Nido, Palawan”

Entry:

“Sorry for my delay in posting an update. I am presenty in the Island Province of Palawan, specifically at the World Class El Nido Resort, Lagen Island. I arrived here on April 21 and have been having a wonderful time! Overslept a bit in Manila and almost missed my flight. Fortunately it was a chartered flight servicing El Nido guests, only, so no standby list to occupy your space. Guess they will allow employees to occupy a vacant seat if someone doesn’t show. Came here with almost no Philippine Pesos in my pocket as I could not get anyone to cash any Travelers Checks before my departure. Even the ultra-luxurious Pan Pacific Hotel had no cash to change $200 USD and the banks were closed. They have these Moneychangers all over the place, but they only accept currency. A word for all who are considering traveling to the Philippines, Travelers Checks are not always that easy to cash, so if you need to bring them, PLAN Ahead. Fortunately, most major credit cards are welcome and honored. Upon arrival to El Nido, they informed me that I didn’t need cash and could put everything on my room bill and pay on check-out. This has worked out very well as meals are included with my accomodations and there is nowhere else to eat. So all I have needed to charge is drinks at the bar and miscellaneous items at the botique. The Resort has an exclusive arrangement with a charter air service that uses 19-passenger, Dornier turbo-prop aircraft. Similar to the ones used by the smokejumpers in the USA. After a quick 1.5 hour flight from Manila, we landed at a VERY Short dirt and blacktop runway, just outside the town of El Nido. After our luggage was loaded onto the boat, we were transported, yet again, in a Banca Boat to the resort. AUpon arrival, we greeted to local folk music sung by the staff……….Kinda felt like a lei greeting in Hawaii, but was very nice.

This place is WONDERFUL! I will say that again in case you didn’t hear me……..This place is WONDERFUL! I have found true paradise in the Philippines. If I was to die today, this is where I would want it to happen. Just kidding……..I’m not ready to go just yet! The resort is Well-Maintained, Service is impecible and the staff treats you like family. They go out of their way to memorize your name and use it frequently when you are greeted while passing through the complex. There is only one downside from my perspective and it is NOT by any means a negative. The amount of and frequency of daily activities makes my head spin. Most daily activities are included with the price you paid for accomodations. Windsurfing, sea kayaking, island hopping, snorkeling, rock climbing, to name just a few. They even offer an intro SCUBA course for those who are not certified divers, free of charge. They do charge for SCUBA, but it is very reasonable. They have Guest Activities Coordinators that drop by your dinner table and work with you to schedule your next days events. No hard sell here and if you choose to do nothing, they will leave it at that. Everyday, I talk to people who come back Dog-Tired from a full day of activities and struggle to make it to dinner. Guess for some this would be an attraction, but I prefer not to overschedule my days so I can focus on relaxing.

I had planned to dive yesterday, but my ears were bothering me from my last dive on Boracay. So I opted to one of the small islands to hang around the beach and then had lunch. Following lunch, they took a boat-load of people to two famous areas of El Nido that they call Big and Small Lagoon. There we went sea-kayaking and then …”

Entry from: Papeete, French Polynesia
Entry Title: “Tahiti: La France d’outre mer”

Entry:

“Ah, the exotic South Pacific of French Polynesia. We were lured by romantic visions of iridescent, reef-protected, mesmerizingly turquoise-blue lagoons saturating beaches of sugary sand under the shadow of rugged and lush mountains, all while lusty maidens serenaded us to sweet sleep surrender… Not quite reality!

Tahiti and the nearby island of Moorea were not as idyllic as we had dreamed. Picture Hawaii (especially the outer islands), but with a heavy dose of French attitude. In spite of what we knew and what we anticipated, it still shocked us to hear French (or French pidgin at least) come from familiar Polynesian faces. As naturally as we had come to expect English in Hawaii, the French seemed foreign in this setting.

But here we were, in the middle of French Polynesia, foreigners ourselves in this new Gaugin twist of the Pacific. We immediately reaquainted ourselves with the satisfying taste of baguettes, fromage and Orangina. We even seized the opportunity to speak a few words en Francais. Like C3PO robotically translating R2D2′s electronic beeps, Reza tried to convey Cheryl’s wishes, but he was thwarted and rebuffed, too slow for a short patience audience. Fortunately, English is widely spoken.

Rude, curt attitudes, uncomfortably long stares, and widespread line-cutting throughout our short stays in Papeete and the scenic island of Moorea, 30 minutes away by ferry, frequently jolted us from our idyllic South Pacific dream. To add insult to injury, Tahiti is expensive: c’est trop cher! So you pay dearly for this rudeness, and c’est dommage. No romantic over-water bungalow on this trip, nor could we squeeze in an extra trip to Bora-Bora. We had to save something to bring us back and what’s more, either luxury would have required us to forsake our European plans. Bottom line: pad your savings accounts before you come to Tahiti, and better yet, consider an overpriced cruise to save you from exorbitant prices on shore. If the food and accomodations don’t deplete your savings, the plethora of Tahitian black pearls certainly will!

This whole trip we’ve encircled Hawaii like a shark, underwhelmed by our tropical destinations in comparison to the 50th state. Hawaii is not in the South Pacific, but luckily for our friends who live there, it offers almost everything we’ve seen. Sure, the water is cooler, not as protected by near-shore reefs and as turquoise-blue; and you’ll find it more difficult to climb mountains while gripping for dear life on the back of an officially licensed “Le Truck”, but it can be just as quaint and exotic outside Honolulu, minus all the hustle and hassles south of the equator. People are friendlier, costs are (relatively) cheaper, and a world of conveniences is within easy reach. For those of you allured by romantic visions of the South Pacific, here’s our black pearl of wisdom: give the Hawaiian Islands a try first, and if an outer island isn’t remote enough, try the Cook Islands next. You’ll find less cultural shoals to run you aground. If you’re in need of more adventure to drain you sense and sensibility, then head for China!”

Travel Club Membership | How it Works

So you’re yearning for a vacation. You start imagining how wonderful it would be to go on a cruise through the Bahamas, or to stay at a 5-star resort in Europe. Then you think how much fun it would be if your friends came along. You start pricing it out online, and slowly you begin to see your vacation plans dwindle away when you learn how much it will all cost and how much planning and coordinating is involved for you and your fellow travelers.

That method of vacationing is over-priced and obsolete. This is the future of travel; leveraging the power of group membership to take you to the most desirable destinations with the finest accomodations at the best possible premiums. Why would you travel any other way?

My husband and I want to spend 5-7 days in Hawaii this August for the honeymoon we never had. Would also like to renew vows.We want to be near a nice beach and beautiful views and resort or villa. We don’t really mind which island but I was doing a little preliminary research and loved Kauai for its lushness and romance. We want to stay under $400 a night in accomodations but we want something nice also. Can you please recommend something for us? We had originally booked something in the Caribbean (Barbados) during this time but will most likely be getting our money back because Hubby still does not have his green card and there’s no telling when. He can only travel within the US currently. Thanks.

Hey Jilly, you know you ask good question, so I do my best to help out, ok? Sound like you realistic bout cost, and I got some idea for you, so here goes, ok? Kauai great place to visit, also live, here some idea for you on that island, Grand Hyatt at Poipu gonna be first choice if it were my choice, cause they on Poipu beach, which great beach, and they have some of landscape on island, and have great price in August, so on Kauai, that be my choice. ok? 2nd choice gotta be any resort at Princeville, that onna north side of island, very nice hotels there, all good, also Princeville Bed and Breakfast, my own fav, but no bad one there, but gonna be maybe little rainy there, but gonna clear off, so no problem there, yeah? If you wanna romantic, lush with nice beach, you can’t go wrong with these suggests, ok?
Renew vows easy, sunset onna beach, you inna long skirt, barefoot, nice orchid lei, you hubby in khakis, aloha shirt, barefoot, nice sea shell or Puka necklace, get Hawaiian Kahuna to recite Hawaiian wedding vows, get rid of Kahuna, have hotel get you wine, cheese, and fresh bread inna basket for lite snack, take walk onna beach…bring blanket, maybe spend some quality time onna beach…good times, make some good memories, yeah?
Peace and aloha to you!

Many MOR Vacations members rave about the availability of luxury accomodations the membership gives them access to in Hawaii. The islands are a very popular vacation destination for Americans. Cashing in frequent flyer miles for award airline tickets has been nearly imposible for years with USA based airlines. That’s because most airline miles are earned on business trips and most business people don’t have a business excuse to visit Hawaii on the company’s money. Yet, these same business travelers covet the Hawaiian Islands as a vacation destination. Hawaii allows those in the East and Midwest to excape winter weather and enjoy the sunshine and tropical climate without leavin the United States and exchanging their U S dollars.

Other vacation club memberships have been received complaints because members were unable to book luxury resort condos in hawaii when they wanted to go, but not MOR Vacations. In fact many who own the travel club membership sold by MOR Vacations rave about the great accomodations and deeply discounted prices they got during peak vacation season in Hawaii.

One MOR Vacations member raved about his amazing Hawaii experience with MOR Vacations. He escaped the cold and snow back home in the month of December and was able to enjoy 2 glorious weeks in the Hawaiian islands. The first week he booked a 2 bedroom luxury resort unit on Kauai right at the shore for just $199. After that great week, he and his travel party moved on to the big island wher they enjoyed a second relaxing week on the ocean in another 2 bedroom luxury unit for $199. Yes, that’s 2 weeks in Hawaii for 2 couples for less than $400 in the lap of luxury with all the amenities.

Another MOR Vacations member was amazed when he called the MOR Vacations VIP Concierge dest to book his Hawaii vacation on Maui. He was amazed because he was given so many choices. He could have booked a 2 bedroom unit across the street from the ocean for less than $200, but elected to stay right on the beach in a spacious multi-level 3 bedroom unit. His cost for that week was less than $400. When he looked at the resort’s website he saw that people could book direct from the resort, but they would pay more money to stay there for one night than he paid for the entire week through MOR Vacations.

MOR Vacations members have been able to book 14 day luxury cruises with major cruise lines for under $1000. Several members have said that travel prices are so great with their MOR Vacations membership that they just can’t afford to stay home. Members have enjoyed consecutive condo stays for several weeks and extended their vacations over a month before returning home to check the mail.

MOR Vacations memberships enable you to go on more vacations than you ever dreamed possible.  Through our exclusive membership, you can access the same destinations that others pay up to ten times more for. The identical luxury  resorts, the identical exotic destinations!

With MOR Vacations you get MORE and pay much LESS!

There are few places left in Hawaii where you can stroll along quiet stretches of sand, see waves splash on ancient, storied shores and feel what the Hawaiians call the mana, or spirit of the land. One such place is Wailea-Makena on Maui’s southwestern coast, home to Makena Beach & Golf Resort the only resort in the area. On this side of Wailea the grass grows greener and the beaches are ranked at the top of the list as the best in the world. Come and discover what is known as Maui’s hidden gem.

At the moment of arrival you will feel the serenity as a lei of seashells is draped over your shoulders and you are welcomed with the genuine smiles and warm attention of our staff. The resort is designed for relaxation, with an Asian meditation garden of stone paths, waterfall and Koi pond swimming with brilliant multi-colored carp. Indulge in the tropical surroundings and natural ambiance of peace and relaxation as you walk through the hotel. As you stroll outdoor embrace the cool tropical breeze and hear the waves of the ocean as you get closer to beach. You will feel the spirit of Aloha and mana of Makena where ever you are at the resort.

Makena Beach & Golf Resort is a scenic five minute drive past the hustle and bustle of the popular Wailea town. Simply follow the road that will take you to your tropical haven. The Resort is secluded on 1800 acres of land, between a perfect crescent beach and the dramatic slopes of Mount Haleakala. It’s unique location makes it unlike any other resort in south Maui. A true Aloha experience, the Resort welcomes you with everything you desire for your Hawaiian visit. Sparkling Pacific views from every guest room. Pristine beach. Spectacular golf. Land and oceanside recreation plus enticing dining options that make Makena the complete destination resort on Maui.

Makena’s offerings do not end at the resort. A short drive further south will lead you to the world famous Big Beach also known as Makena Beach and one of the most beautiful in the world. Little Beach located at the end of Big Beach is popularly known for Hawaii’s only unofficial clothing optional beach. Follow the road further south to see magnificent oceanfront homes that eventually lead you to the historical La Perouse Bay which makes up part of the Ahihi-Kina’u Natural Area Preserve. This is home to many endemic species, marine mammals, green sea turtles and coastal plants. If you go early enough you may catch a glimpse of dolphins playing in the bay.
