My boyfriend and I want to rent a small cottage or something for two people in Hawaii. We don’t know which island. We want to just enjoy the quite beaches and maybe go out at nights. Can someone help me find the right island/city and websites to rent a place to stay for 3 to 5 days. Thank you

I’ve used to site below to find a cabin elsewhere in the country, but they sure have a lot of listings for Hawaii. One very convenient feature they have added recently is the ability to narrow down the listings to those that are available between the dates you specify. This shows up when you look at specific neighborhoods on different islands.

To give you an idea of the quiet/nightlife balance, I’ve arranged neighborhoods in a kind of spectrum for you. In that list, Hawaii refers to the island of Hawaii, also called the Big Island.

But on Molokai, for example, you could go to the Kualapuu Cookhouse on Thursday night and watch people come play ukulele, washtub bass, slack-key guitar, and sing, still wearing grease-stained t-shirts from work. Or you could go to the Hotel Molokai on Friday night to see about 12-20 "kupuna" gather to make music. Unfortunately, the Lodge in Maunaloa closed back in 2008, and Paddler’s Inn just closed, and but we are hopeful it will reopen soon.

Quiet
Lanai; Molokai; Rural Hawaii

More quiet than nightlife
Kauai; Hilo, Hilo

Quiet, some nightlife
Lahaina, Maui; Kailua-Kona, Hawaii; Windward Side Oahu

Nightlife
Kihei, Maui; Honolulu and Waikiki, Oahu

Someone was telling me that it is not legal to accept money from a person who is just renting for a one week vacation and give it to the owner of the property without having a real estate license. Is this true? where might I be able to find info on this to proove this to him. I don’t think that you have to.

anyone can act on behalf of the property owner, as long as the property owner hired him.

good luck

We need lots of space and thinking to rent 3-4 bedroom vacation home, found pretty good choice here

http://www.villa4vacation.com/rentals/Hawaii.aspx

It seems like rental prices are better then getting hotel rooms.
Need suggestions, what would be a good Island to go for a first time ? We are going in July-August time frame

Girl, I am going to tell you one thing. Bring LOTS of cash. I was there for 5 days with my wife and I shelled out close to $2,500.00. You bringing kids? When you come back home you need to refinance your house. LOL.

Enjoy your stay at Hawaii. It’s beautiful, I was in Oahu and stayed at the Marriot Hotel. 1 block away from beach.

3 kids + cat and $400 a week beach vacation budget, is it possible? Any ideas?

We tried home exchange but most people think twice before accepting a family with 3 kids, or we usually end up in a "less desired" areas. Could anyone suggest any other ways to have a decent beach vacation on a super tight budget?

Consider finding a vacation rental off the beaten path or with no direct ocean view. You will find that those property owners are more flexible, plus they do not have their hands tied with heavy hurricane insurance costs and/or special property tax assessments for being oceanfront. We recently stayed in St Augustine NE Florida, only one block to the beach yet in town, for around $499 per week + tax and cleaning, I think the website is: http://vacationrentalsflorida.us Even within the same area we found that prices vary drastically and rates are almost double as you get closer to Jacksonville Beach. Smaller towns are nicer to be in to begin with so the premiums for popular destinations are not justified in my eyes.

I now have a 2nd home in Hawaii that I want to get booked for weekly rentals. I have a property manager that will allow me to try and book myself at a reduced rate. I have already listed on VRBO.com any other suggestions?

I found a website that answers just that question:

http://www.compareownerholidayrentals.com/

They review and rate all the places to list your vacation rental.

Okay everyone, so here’s the deal: We are having a wedding in about a month. Hawaii is a large part in our lives as that’s where he proposed when I visited him there when he was in the Navy. I also have been doing Polynesian dancing since I was 7 and I am 25 now.

So what we are doing is a mostly casual thing. Everyone is asked to be casual and comfortable. No gifts either. There will be approx 200 guests including kids. It will all take place in the evening, starting at 5:00pm and it will be dark around 8:00pm that night. It’s all at his parents house in the country on acres and acres.

As guests arrive, the dancers will be greeting them with a lei and kiss on the cheek! :) The ceremony is by a fountain and pond. Very pretty. I am wearing a beach wedding dress and he is wearing khaki short and a white button up shirt. The wedding party is in matching fabric dresses for the ladies and shirts for the men. We are all going to wear flip flops. We also decided on no bouquets or anything, instead the ladies are going to hold a glass of champagne and the guys a beer.

After the ceremony, we will start the BBQ buffet immediately since we are taking photos before the event. There will be LOTS of awesome home made food prepared by our awesome families! During this time, there will be Hawaiian/beach themed music playing in the background. About 45min later we will do the speeches and then we will cut the cake. Once that is over, the live band will play for about 15min or so as they cake is passed out before an Authentic Luau is performed! They will be doing dances from Hawaii to Tahiti, including a fire dancer! So it will be very exciting! They also pull some of the guests up for audience participation in the end. That is about a 45min show all together.

We will also have a $1 Tiki Bar. Basically, we are taking care of most the expenses for the bar, all but $1 each. So we are still forking out $2-3 each drink that people buy… There will be things like Jungle Juice, Beer, Mai-Tais, Hurricanes & Coke w/ Rum. Which the Tiki Bar will be open before the ceremony.

After the Luau, we will do the garter and bouquet. This will be around 8pm. I figure most will leave at this time. The band will play during this "transition" time for about an hour as people say bye and all and then we are having an "after party". Just a few hours with no schedule, program or anything. Just so we can actually enjoy the evening, it not go by so fast and really get to visit with some guests. We have quite a few flying in or driving a long ways, and a wedding is not the greatest place for catch up and hang out. I don’t care if only 15 people are there for the "after party" We will have a DJ, the bar and all as well during this time.

Anyway, so I think that’s it. So what I am looking for is some ideas to make sure this is a blast for everyone! I want people to want to stay!

I am getting a piñata for the kids as well as something for them to do, not too sure yet. And someone also mentioned having a volley ball net set up or something…?

We already got all the tiki torches to put everywhere, as well as party lights to hang and there is already a built in fire pit that they have there too! So I was thinking maybe get some stuff to make Smores!

I basically just want a really fun, comfortable and memorable evening! I don’t care about tradition, being fancy or impressing anyone. This is a time to live it up for us before my fiancé gets deployed in a few months.

Thank you all in advance for any ideas!!!

P.S. Please don’t respond with lectures of spending money and all that matters is marrying the one I love and all that. Just so you know, not a lot is being spent. We have a very large family and everyone is pitching in a little to help with the food & drink. I have a very close friend who owns a party rental store, so those are nearly free except for the people to set things up. The band and dancers, I am part of the group and we are all like family… they wouldn’t let me pay a dime if I tried! Again, lots of people are traveling to get there, I want it to be worth it and fun! So please, spare the rudeness and just leave my question alone if that’s all you have to say. That is not what I am asking for. I am asking for ideas to make it more fun, unique or more pleasant!
Awww you all are so sweet. Yeah, sorry it was kinda long, lol. And great advice for the time taken to get through a line. It will be a double sided line of food. And 45min may be enough before speeches start. If not, no biggie. We will also have siblings (there are 14 total) pass out the cake during the Luau. If people arent ready for it, they can just wait. But still, I may add 15 min to each area of time. Thanks again!!!

Have the table cloth on the children’s table be white paper where the kids can color on it. If the kids are having a good time the parents won’t want to leave. Get them bubbles to blow while you are doing your dances, and sparklers for everyone.

You might be surprised, people might stay longer than you think! Most importantly have FUN!

i am looking for good websites that i can find not too expensive rentals (not hotels) in paris?

There are several reliable companies that do short term vacation apartment rentals. Any of the following will do:

http://www.beau-paris.com/apartment-rentals/html_pages/pid47_english.html

http://www.parisaddress.com/paris-apartment-rental/qs.php?ref=BROCA75

http://www.vacationinparis.com/index.html

http://www.vrbo.com/vacation-rentals/europe/france/ile-de-france/paris

We are considering moving to HAWAII IN 2-3 years. How hard is it to get by in Hawaii? How hard is it to get a job? I know housing is expensive. I am studying for my associates degree and plan on continuing on to a bachelors after that. My husband has a masters in Business. We just came home from Hawaii on vacation and checked a few things out while there. But I would like everyone’s opinion on this.
Also, I have a silly question to most of you but something I need to know.
Are the cockroaches as bad as all the websites say? I ask because I have a phobia of them, due to my childhood home being infested.

Go for it! If you and your husband are determined and truly want it, you can do it. A lot of Hawaiians will tell you it’s hard to find a job, things are expensive, etc. and they are totally right, but you have to keep things in perspective. It’s hard on the mainland, too. Personally, I have more friends who are unemployed in Florida than in Hawaii right now. Yes, things are expensive; yes, it’s hard to find a good paying job; yes, the whole economy is almost exclusively based on tourism, and when the haoles stop vacationing, the money drys up… but the one thing Hawaians take for granted is their overall quaility of life! You can’t beat the aloha spirit! If you and your husband want it bad enough, you can make it anywhere, whether it’s NYC or Honolulu. And while I love the Big Apple, I’d much rather work three jobs to make ends meet and fight with roaches in paradise than in some closet of an apartment in cold, cold New York.

My advice- you enroll in school in Hawaii and your husband finds a job BEFORE you move. It could be tough either way, but there are jobs available if you have skills/experience and know where to look. If you go out there with something already set up, it’ll make living there much easier!

Here’s something that can help you tremendously- have you considered picking up a language or two, like french, japanese, or russian? Because of its location in the middle of the pacific, Hawaii sort of doubles as the unofficial capital of the south pacific, and while most islanders speak english, french polynesia is still a pretty big part. Japan has very strong ties to Hawaii, so that’s a given. And Russian tourists and businesses have begun to invest on the islands, making them a growing economic entity. And check out the website below- it’ll give you a good idea of how much money you’ll need to get by, based on where you are now.

On a final note- roaches are gonna be a huge concern in any tropical place. Hawaii is no exception, although I’ve never actually seen one there. If you’re seriously worried about them, this could be a deal breaker.

A Video Tour Of The Sunset Beach House, Oahu’s Favorite Vacation Rental Home. Located directly on the sand at exotic Sunset Beach, on the world famous North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii.

My home is directly on the sand at Sunset Beach, on the main island of Oahu, about 1,000 feet down from Pipeline, one of the world’s most famous surfing spots.

The beach in front of my house is gorgeous and is hardly used as there is no public access to it close to my home. The water is crystal clear and the snorkeling is great!

The home has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms and is perfect for parties of up to 8 people with comfort and ease. There is a Jacuzzi on the deck overlooking the beach and my own private volleyball/badminton court is right along side the house, as you can see in the aerial shot on my web page.

The house is only a 7-8 minute drive from the historic whaling town of Haleiwa, which is the main town on the north shore of Oahu. It has lots of restaurants, shopping, a marina (in case you would like to go deep sea fishing), and live entertainment is abundant in many of the restaurants and bars. The Turtle Bay Hilton is about 5 miles away from the house in the other direction, and they have 2 golf courses, horseback riding, and a disco. There is a Foodland supermarket about 1/2 mile from the house. All the island activities, from hang gliding to scuba diving, and polo matches to jet skis are all just minutes away from my house.

For your viewing pleasure the living room has a 46 Flatscreen HDTV featuring all the movie channels with stereo DVD, and there are Flatscreen TV/DVDs in all the bedrooms. The home also has digital security and an electronic safe for your valuables.

In addition to the 3 inside baths there is a hot and cold 2 headed shower at the bottom of the deck which is hidden by foliage, and is everybody’s favorite place to shower and refresh after coming off the beach or after a long soak in the spa.

The kitchen is custom crafted in local island Koa hardwood & has every appliance you can think of, and of course there is a Telephone, High speed DSL Wireless Internet (Wifi), Free Long Distance, iron, and all the other items you would find in your own home.

The water is crystal clear and the snorkeling is great. SCUBA diving is a major attraction on the north shore with both boat and shore dives available. Waimea Falls is only a mile away, and hiking at Waimea Valley is an unforgettable experience.

You won’t have to bring anything but your swimsuit and a smile to have s Great Time!

Tough crap if they end up divorced, they are the ones who put themselves into the spotlight.

hope this as helped,good luck….

My boyfriend will be finishing A School in Mississippi in October and wants to come home to Hawaii before getting his orders. How hard would that be? Also does he have to pay for his own airfare? Could he take a military flight on stand-by?
I really appreciate all of your answers! Thank you for your support!

Bloody hell, they’re already giving you a free cruise, what more do you want?

Hi there

I have two options, I am seriously considering.

I am going through a divorce, I ended up with a condo and the condo’s hefty mortgage. My spouse, he ended up with the rest of the rental properties and the businesses.

I have started my own business, and it is getting quite a few leads, but I am behind on some of my payments and curve ball a bit… nothing that cant be reinstated with some steady work.
My profit margins are high, and it can grow fast. But I live on an island where its tough even in a great economy.<br>
Im very interested in the Hawaii national guard and I have years of experience in Information Technology. I could try steer towards that MOS, dependant on my ASVAB scores etc
I also wish to complete the final two years of a BS in accounting. None of which I can afford on my own. I figure I an defer active duty for a couple of years while studying and building biz.

Whats your thoughts on the matter…. military… or not??? Kinda going down…

Do your best to sell the condo and get a more affordable place (tough in Hawaii, I know – we’re getting ready to move there). My husband is in the military and it’s great for us but make sure that you’re prepared to be deployed and ready to make that sacrifice, you may not be sent but you still need to be mentally okay with that if you’re even going to consider the military.

Waikiki Beach Ocean View Condos! One block to Waikiki Beach
Several condos to choose from located at the Waikiki Banyan…Rates vary on all units starting from $90/nt to $199/nt…Please visit my web site to see pictures and information for all the units I have.
