I feel like Im going to forget something!! I have two cats, and they are being taken care of for the week.

But what else do I need to do? I have our rental car set up, I made sure our phones would work over there without enoromous charge, I checked when the check-in time was, I have all our stuff ready to pack, I need to go buy cameras….

I feel like Im going to foget something. Are there any checklists for travel to make sure you got everything on the ball before you go?? Im so scatterbrained sometimes and I dont want something forgotten to ruin the vacation!! Any advice???

There are lots of travel checklists on the net. Google "travel checklist" to see.

Really, though, you just need to calm down. If your cats are safe, you have your plane tickets and your hotel reservations, and you know your phone will work there, how much can go wrong? It’s not like you couldn’t buy spare parts on Maui.

Here are some of my personal last minute checks: If you have papers delivered, stop them while you’re gone. What is happening to your mail? (Pickup by cat sitter or held at post office?) If you have a yard, are sprinklers set? Any drugs you need to make sure you refill before going? Do relatives know where you will be so they don’t stress?

Have a lovely time on Maui and don’t worry too much.

through my job I won a 5 day 4 night all expenses paid to anywhere in the U.S. 50 states we chose hawaii I would like to know what single island and hotel we should go to so we can maximize the 5 days. we like beaches, snorkeling and fishing we get a rental car also

Aloha,

I suggest the Island of Maui because the beaches are absolutely beautiful. I’ve personally never had to stay in a hotel on any of the islands because I have family on every island that is inhabitable; but I hear that the Ka’anapali Beach Hotel is really nice.

Although if you are looking for the island that you can do many things–I suggest you go to O’ahu. There is much more nightlife on O’ahu. The Hilton is a really nice hotel and it has its own village of shops and restaurants.

Pretty much all islands are nice as far as beaches go. They all have their own beauty.

Please be courteous to the locals.
I hope you have fun on your trip.

Hi, i’m flying to new york with my bf soon and we can’t afford $300 per night in a hotel, so we are looking at apartment rentals on craigslist. But i’m scared to get scammed. how much can you rely on that?
Have you ever stayed in one? can you recommend something?

Instead of doing that, why not try looking at hotels in other boroughs or even NJ? They’ll be less expensive than a hotel in Manhattan and they’ll be more reliable than booking something through Craigslist. You don’t want to get to NY and find that the apartment you’ve rented doesn’t exist.

I love the beach, so Hawaii is my choice. Beach-golf- and tropical locale. Plus it’s American.

Oh yeah, Hawaii all the way.

Only not as a vacation home, but a permanant place!

My fiancé and I are getting married on May 10th 2008. We are so excited about taking our Honeymoon to Hawaii, since neither of us has been there. We are open to the island we stay at but do NOT want to stay in a hotel. We are looking for a private condo on the beach so we can cook our own food and have the comforts of our “own” home. Something that is nice, yet affordable, our budget will be about $6000 total for maybe 10 days.

Also, we want our condo to be secluded but give us the option to take our rental car to a nice dinner, grocery shop and do fun activities. We want to be able to be in somewhat close proximity to swimming with dolphins, a zip line experience, surf lessons, horseback riding and jet skiing.

So if anyone has any lodging recommendations and activity information I would really appreciate it. Like I mentioned we have no idea where to begin with planning and are hoping we can find the island of our dreams. We are hoping to make this the trip of a lifetime!

The only island where you can be sure to be able to swim with dolphins is Oahu. (They also offer it on the Big Island of Hawaii, but not everyone who wants to do it there can get a turn.) But Oahu is the most crowded island by far.

A private condo on a beach is going to be very expensive. Most great beach property is taken up by big resort hotels or big not-very-private condos.

I suggest Maui as the best island. It is not as crowded as Oahu, and there is a lot more to do than on Kauai or the Big Island of Hawaii. There are two zip lines, several horseback riding places (including one that can take you into Haleakala crater on horseback), surf lessons and jet skiing (though no swimming with dolphins on Maui).
